Brazil bridge buckles and plunges into river

Footage reveals a person narrowly avoiding falling right into a river in southern Brazil as a motorway bridge gave means on Tuesday.

Heavy rains – triggering big floods within the state of Rio Grande do Sul – have killed 39 folks, with 68 nonetheless lacking, native officers say.

Tens of hundreds have fled their properties and there have been energy cuts and water outages.

On Thursday, a hydroelectric dam between the municipality of Cotiporã and town of Bento Gonçalves collapsed, inflicting a two-metre (6.6ft) wave and plunging cities beneath water.

The intense climate has been brought on by a uncommon mixture of hotter-than-average temperatures, excessive humidity and powerful winds.
