Alexei Navalny jokes in first look from new jail

Jailed Russian opposition chief Alexei Navalny made his first public look in a video name since being moved to an Arctic penal colony.

Navalny had been moved to the IK-3 penal colony, nicknamed “Polar Wolf”, within the northern city of Kharp, some 1,900km (1,200 miles) northeast of Moscow in December.

It is seen as one of many hardest jails in Russia and most detainees held there have been convicted of significant crimes.

Talking with journalists on the video name, Navalny seemed to be in good spirits, joking that he was but to obtain any Christmas mail, on account of being “fairly far-off”.
