Customs officers at KIA unearth try to smuggle 10 yellow anacondas

Bengaluru Air Customs intercepted an try to smuggle 10 yellow anacondas hid in a checked-in bag of a passenger arriving from Bangkok.

The Customs Division officers at Kempegowda Worldwide Airport (KIA) unearthed a wildlife smuggling try by a passenger arriving from Bangkok. The passenger was detained at KIA for making an attempt to smuggle 10 yellow anacondas into the town.

Upon checking the passenger’s bag, Customs officers discovered that the passenger had hid the reptiles in a checked-in bag.

“Bengaluru Air #Customs intercepted try to smuggle 10 yellow anacondas hid in checked-in bag of a pax arriving from Bangkok. Pax arrested and investigation is underway. Wildlife trafficking won’t be tolerated,” Bengaluru Customs posted on X (previously Twitter).

Species listed underneath CITES (the Conference on Worldwide Commerce in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora) are topic to the provisions of the conference. This isn’t the primary time officers have intercepted an try to smuggle wildlife from Bangkok.

In January 2022, the Directorate of Income Intelligence officers intercepted three passengers from Bangkok on the KIA and recovered non-indigenous 18 animals (4 primates and 14 reptiles) from them. The passengers had tried to smuggle the animals of their checked-in baggage.

In August 2022, Customs officers arrested a person carrying 234 reptiles, together with pythons, chameleons, iguanas, turtles, and alligators apart from recovering a carcass of a child Kangaroo hid in trolley bag
